Here is a Windows XP driver for the modem. Works with XP Home and XP Pro
Formatting the hard drive, then install.
The modem must be compatible with XP. You said that you tried to update the driver. Does this mean that you have already installed. If so, then I think it should work, but can not update it. You can also find the latest driver line. Sometimes a diver is used for all operating systems, it can not find an XP driver, but only a general nature. If that fails, then you can find one that works for between $ 15 and $ 20 You could actually install on win 98, but with children on the Internet, I would not recommend this because it is less certain.
You can buy a modem (PCI) of 20.00 and install the thing. I do not have Win98 to change from XP, it's like moving from a Pinto to a climbing wall
Try is a different driver. To DriverGuide.com http://www.driverguide.com
